Twenty-three live music performances are listed across Cairns venues for the remainder of July, with the first ticketed shows opening at the Tanks Arts Centre on Collins Avenue this weekend.
The increase follows the end of the wet season and the return of cruise-ship schedules that now bring an average of four vessels each week to Trinity Wharf, lifting foot traffic in the central business district after a quiet June.
The Tanks Arts Centre on Collins Avenue runs a regular Thursday night series in its outdoor amphitheatre, while the Court House Hotel on Abbott Street hosts free acoustic sets on its upstairs balcony every Friday from 7 pm. Both sites sit within a ten-minute walk of each other and are served by the city’s late-night bus route that stops at the corner of Lake and Abbott streets until 1 am.
Entry prices start at $28 for general admission at the Tanks, with the Court House shows remaining free for patrons who purchase at least one drink from the bar. Last season the same venues recorded combined attendance of 4,800 across July dates, according to figures released by Cairns Regional Council.
Getting around and staying safe
Visitors should book taxis or rideshares in advance after 11 pm on weekends, as demand spikes near the Esplanade. The city’s council also runs a free shuttle from the Pier Marketplace back to the central bus interchange on Saturday nights through the end of the month.
Check the council website or venue pages for updated set times before heading out, and allow extra travel time if staying in the northern beaches suburbs where services run less frequently after dark.
