How to Get Involved in Cairns Sports Facilities and What You Need to Know to Start
New registration windows open this month at two upgraded Cairns venues for residents seeking team sports and training access.
How we reported this

The Cairns Regional Council opened online registration on July 12 for the refurbished multi-purpose courts at the McLeod Street Sports Complex, giving locals direct entry to indoor basketball, futsal and volleyball programs.
Interest in organised sport has risen sharply since the 2026 World Cup quarter-finals drew large crowds to local viewing sites, pushing council staff to accelerate facility upgrades that were first funded in the 2025 budget.
Two venues now taking sign-ups
At McLeod Street, players can join the Cairns Basketball Association junior and senior divisions or the new futsal league run by the Far North Queensland Football Association. A second site, the Trinity Park Community Courts on Captain Cook Highway, added four new netball courts last month and is accepting applications through the Cairns Netball Association for its winter competition that begins August 3.
Both locations require proof of residency and a current medical clearance form, which can be downloaded from the council website or collected at the Cairns Regional Library on Abbott Street.
Costs, times and next steps
Junior memberships start at $185 for the season while adult teams pay $320, with the first 200 registrations receiving a free training pack valued at $45. Sessions run weekday evenings from 5:30 pm and Saturday mornings at both venues. Applicants should complete the form by July 26 to secure a spot before the August intake closes.
Those approved will receive an email within five business days containing a facility access card and the season draw.
