The Cairns region maintains over 400 sport and recreational clubs that run competitive community leagues in at least 30 sports. Barlow Park functions as the regional athletics stadium with an eight-lane IAAF-standard track and hosts training sessions run by the Cairns Athletics Club. Additional clubs such as Cairns South Futsal, established in 2023, and Cairns Indoor Sports, which runs Autumn, Winter and Summer seasons of 12 to 18 rounds, add further options for team athletes.
